WIPO Brazil Office (WBO) World IP Day Celebrations

Since 2016 WBO has been celebrating World Intellectual Property Day in order to reach a broad audience and emphasize the importance of the IP system for innovation. Last year World IP Day activities reached around 400 students in six universities and 30 authorities. This year the range of activities WBO undertook reached more than a thousand people directly, and comprised two celebrations, a conference, a symposium, 12 other events in many regions of Brazil, distribution of promotional material, and video productions.
Cocktails
On April, 25, the Consulate of the United States in Rio de Janeiro held a cocktail party for 70 authorities and technicians in the area of IP. And on April, 26, the Brazilian Association of Intellectual Property (ABAPI) held a cocktail party for 78 people involved with the theme of IP and innovation.
Conference
A was conference organized by WBO and INPI on April 26. The conference on “Innovation: Improving Lives” was led by Mr. Pedro Wongtschowski, member of the committee of leaders of the Business Mobilization for Innovation from the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), and Advisory Board Member of the Global Innovation Index.
Symposium
The Symposium on Intellectual Property was hosted by the Technology Park at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), with the support of USPTO, INPI, WBO and ABPI.
Seminar and other events
Eight events were organized in cooperation with INPI in many regions of Brazil. They were organized by the INPI regional offices in cooperation with the WBO. Those events had an audience of 420 people. Most of them were focused on IP and Innovation. Furthermore, four other activities were undertaken without WBO participation:
- The Museum of Tomorrow organized the Seminar on Paths of Science, Technology and Innovation for Youth which aimed to inspire new young inventors;
- the Porto Alegre Commercial Association (ACPA) organized a meeting among citizens, Innovation to Feed Lives;
- Leão Intellectual Property Firm invited all its employees to bring their parents to an "Innovation and IP Tour" experience; and
- the Innovation Agency of PUC Rio University organized a meeting to inform and train researchers on the requirements related to the search for information on IP.
Promotional materials
The WBO/INPI distributed IP Day promotional materials such as information folders and brochures to increase awareness of the importance of IP for innovation. 200 posters, 500 bookmarks, 200 postcards, and 500 WIPO publications were distributed.
Video productions
The National Confederation of Industry of Brazil (CNI), one of the most important stakeholders of WBO, produced two videos on successful cases of innovation and the use of the IP system, and other promotional materiais, in order to celebrate the World IP Day. They are available on the CNI Facebook page.
