Launch of New Executive Course: Promoting Access to Medical Technologies and Innovation
November 2, 2016
The Director General of WIPO, Francis Gurry, announced the launch of a new executive Distance Learning (DL) course, entitled Promoting Access to Medical Technologies and Innovation (DL-701), at the WIPO, WHO and WTO Joint Technical Symposium on Antimicrobial Resistance on October 25, 2016.
The new DL-701 executive course is based on a study prepared by WIPO, WHO and WTO on Access to Medical Technologies. The course has been developed by the WIPO Academy and the WIPO Global Challenges Division in response to a long-standing demand from WIPO member states for a course that addresses IP and Public Health.
The DL-701 course aims to address policy intersections among IP, public health and trade by providing participants with an overview of the factors that shape access to and influence innovation technology in the medical field.
Registration
The intended target audience of the DL-701 executive course is technical professionals, including policy makers and their assistants, drug procurement specialists, IP specialists, officials from ministries of health, researchers and academic institutions.
Course registration opened on October 25, 2016 and will close on November 30, 2016. Some 300 individuals are expected to register based on expressed interest. The course is set to start on November 7, 2016 and the registration period for the next session in 2017 will be announced at a later date on the WIPO Academy Website.
