The first regional edition of the Advanced International Certificate Course (AICC) on Intellectual Property (IP) Asset Management was organized in French for French-speaking African countries from 3 to 5 July at the Denis Ekani Academy in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The WIPO Academy, the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), the Korea Invention Promotion Association (KIPA) and the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI) jointly organized the three-day face-to-face training program.
KIPO and KIPA contributed to the program as part of the Republic of Korea’s efforts to develop human resources in the use of IP for promoting innovation and inventiveness in developing countries, least developed countries and countries with economies in transition.
The regional edition of the AICC responds to a regional need for IP management courses, and to support local business associations, decision-makers, research institutes, and the private sector in the OAPI region by providing IP knowledge and management strategies to enhance their innovative capacity and competitiveness in the global market.
Twenty-two business professionals from seven countries in the French-speaking region of Africa took part in the program, which was based on the Advanced WIPO Academy Distance Learning Course on IP Management (DL-450). The program marked the first regional customization under the Academy’s Distance Learning Program, featuring regional and local examples and cases.
The program included interactive workshop exercises and lectures on a range of topics such as:
The participants had a very positive reaction to the training course with the majority reporting that they found the face-to-face lectures, case studies and discussions with the experts very practical.
