WIPO-Queensland University of Technology (QUT) students win the GC O’Donnell Copyright Essay Prize
Three students from the WIPO-QUT Master of Intellectual Property Law (LL.M) won the prestigious GC O'Donnell Copyright Essay Prize administered by the Australian Copyright Council (ACC). The prize was awarded to Mr. Mark Robert Dy, Ms. Janani Iyer, and Mr. Romil Mehta during the 19th Biennial Copyright Law and Practice Symposium on October 22.
The three winners were awarded the prize for their research essay ‘Doing Business with Wizards, Spider-men, and Jedi Knights: Managing Intellectual Property and Fandom in the Experience Economy’. The essay advocates for a tolerant commercial approach in responding to the infringing activity of fans of popular culture. It was originally a class assignment, which the group developed into a broader and more comprehensive essay for the competition.
