WIPO Academy and the National Directorate of Intellectual Property (DINAPI) of Paraguay co-organized a training course for government officials on patent search and examination in Asuncion, Paraguay from February 17 to 21, 2020. The training course was organized with support from the European Patent Office (EPO) and the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM). This professional development training marks the first time that DINAPI hosted a course on the subject of patent search and examination.
The course was organized to strengthen the technical skills of patent examiners in the Latin American and Caribbean Region, in particular in the field of agricultural mechanics. A special focus was given to green innovation in line with the World Intellectual Property Day theme of 2020, “Innovate for a Green Future”. Fourteen government officials from 11 countries in the region benefited from interactive lessons taught by renowned patent experts, alongside group work and simulation exercises on patent search and examination using search engines.
Similar training opportunities on patent search and examination for government officials will be held in 2020 in Egypt for African and Arab countries, in India for Asian countries with a focus on biotechnology and pharmaceutical fields, and in Israel with a focus on computer and telecommunication fields. Registration details for the above mentioned courses are available at the WIPO eLearning Center.
