Registration Open: WIPO Summer Schools in South Africa, the United States and Switzerland

The WIPO Academy Summer Schools with the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, George Mason University in the United States of America (USA), and with the University of Geneva (UNIGE) in Switzerland are open for registration.

The registration deadline for the WIPO-UNIGE Summer Schools is March 15, 2021. The registration deadline for the WIPO-South Africa Summer School is March 31, 2021. The early bird deadline for the WIPO-USA Summer School is March 15, 2021 and the final registration deadline is May 3, 2021.

These WIPO Summer Schools are offered in English and are open to young professionals and students (graduate and post-graduate) from any field of study or discipline interested in expanding their intellectual property (IP) knowledge and skills. Each summer school consists of lectures, case studies, simulation exercises and group discussions on selected IP topics, with an orientation towards the interface between IP and other disciplines. A certificate of participation is awarded to participants who successfully complete the program requirements.

Summer school details and registration

The WIPO – South Africa Summer School on IP and Transfer of Technology offered with the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa is scheduled to take place from May 18 to 27, 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the associated travel restrictions, the WIPO – South Africa Summer School will take place online and will be exceptionally offered free of charge.

The WIPO – USA Summer School on Intellectual Property offered with Antonin Scalia Law School of George Mason University will also be offered online due to the COVID-19 pandemic from June 1 to 12, 2021. The WIPO – USA Summer School incurs registration fees. Registration is limited to 100 applicants, as space is limited to eligible applicants on a first come first served basis.

The WIPO – UNIGE Summer School on Intellectual Property is scheduled to take place from June 28 to July 9, 2021. The Summer School incurs registration fees and its format is yet to be determined given the ongoing developments of the COVID-19 pandemic. The WIPO – UNIGE Summer School is designed for in-person delivery at UNIGE and WIPO Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, however the summer school can be adapted for online or hybrid delivery. Accepted applicants will be updated on the final mode of delivery for the summer school.
