The WIPO Academy signed an agreement with Tongji University (Shanghai, China) on July 14, 2021. The agreement establishes a new Joint Master’s Degree Program in Intellectual Property (IP), with a specialization in industrial property, to be launched in September 2021. The new program will replace the current Master’s Degree Program, with a specialization in design law.
Mr. Sherif Saadallah, Executive Director of the WIPO Academy, and Mr. Jie Chen, President of Tongji University, signed the agreement at a hybrid signing ceremony, which involved approximately 100 online and in-person participants.
WIPO will focus more on providing relevant skills to users of the IP system, in particular to benefit the private sector, SMEs and entrepreneurs. Across all the WIPO Joint Master’s Degree Programs, we will be placing a greater emphasis on the application of that knowledge to skills development, equipping participants with the skills needed to make full and effective use of the IP system.

Since the launch of the first WIPO Joint Master’s Degree with Tongji University in 2016, over 120 participants from 22 countries have graduated from the program. Beneficiaries of this higher education program range from government officials, to researchers, university students, lawyers and entrepreneurs.
