Record-breaking IP Lectures for University Students in Indonesia
November 16, 2021
The WIPO Academy held week-long virtual lectures on intellectual property (IP) from November 1 to 5, 2021 for the benefit of graduate and undergraduate students at the Universitas Indonesia and Universitas Padjadjaran. More than 1000 students took part in the lectures, resulting in one of the highest turnout rates in Academy-organized IP lectures for universities. The IP lectures form part of the Academy’s cooperation with universities in Indonesia to promote IP higher education.
What did the IP lectures cover?
During the lectures, IP experts from WIPO covered a range of topics including:
International protection of trademarks, designs and geographical indications;
WIPO internet treaties and recent developments in the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights;
The Madrid System for the international registration of trademarks;
IP, traditional knowledge, traditional cultural expressions and genetic resources; and
International protection of patents and recent developments in patent law.
What our partners are saying?
"It was a very pleasant week. Full of bright ideas and intense discussion. I hope that this collaboration will continue in a sustainable way for years to come."
— Professor Agus Sardjono (Universitas Indonesia)
"It gave our students a very solid overview of specific topics of each IP regime, highlighting recent developments such as AI and emerging technologies. It was a very insightful week."
—Dr. Henny Marlyna (Universitas Indonesia)
"Our students were excited to learn from WIPO officials. They knew that their IP knowledge would be enriched by special experts whose expertise was not only gained from books, but also from direct involvements in the ongoing IP multilateral negotiations. Furthermore, the topics were delivered in comprehensive, easy-to-understand, and stimulating ways. It was an immense intellectual experience for all of us."
—Dr. Miranda Risang Ayu Palar (Universitas Padjadjaran)
"It is a pride for the academic community of the Faculty of Law of Universitas Padjadjaran to have the opportunity to get lectures from prominent scholars and WIPO officers. In these last two years, as the teaching method is increasingly varied through online classes, the interest of undergraduate, graduate, public notary and doctoral students has also increased. Through WIPO's cooperation, we can also develop our academic networks, training opportunities, and writing experience."
