The first WIPO-Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) Summer School in Wuhan, China, was held from October 18 to 29, 2021 in a hybrid format. The summer school was co-organized by the WIPO Academy, HUST School of Management and the Sino-European Institute for Intellectual Property for the benefit of more than 100 participants from over 10 countries.
The summer school focused on intellectual property (IP) and small and medium-sized enterprises, and how they can protect their IP rights in international trade. A total of 23 leading experts from different regions of the world covered a range of topics under the theme including:
The program was opened by Prof. ZHANG Xinliang, Vice President of HUST, and Mr. Joe Bradley, Head of the Academic Institutions Program at the WIPO Academy. Dr. LIU Hua, Director of the WIPO Office in China, Prof. YANG Zhi, Dean of the School of Management of HUST, and Prof. YU Xiang, Director of the Sino-European Institute for IP of HUST closed the program on October 29, 2021 echoing the points raised by participants about the usefulness of the program to their studies and future careers.
