Back Again: Academy-Turin LL.M. Study Visit to WIPO

June 14, 2022

After a two-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic the annual study visits of students, from the Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Intellectual Property (IP), jointly offered by the WIPO Academy and the University of Turin, with the support of the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITC-ILO), to WIPO Headquarters in Geneva have resumed.

From June 7 to 10, 2022 students from the current cohort visited WIPO to gain knowledge from WIPO experts on the latest developments in IP being discussed at WIPO, and to enhance their IP knowledge on topical issues of their research through group sessions and individual meetings with the experts. The students also used the study visit as an opportunity to use the WIPO Knowledge Center for further research.

Thirty-three students from 23 different countries took part in the first post-pandemic study visit to WIPO.

Which topics were covered during the study visit?

The study visit included interactive lectures by WIPO experts on a range of IP topics including:

  • Traditional knowledge, traditional cultural expressions and genetic resources;
  • Patents and trade secrets;
  • Trademarks, designs and geographical indications;
  • The Madrid System for the International Registration of Marks;
  • IP and frontier technologies; and
  • IP and development.

Study visits and other training activities at the WIPO Academy will gradually integrate in-person elements post-pandemic.
