Thirty-seven students from 17 different African countries graduated from the Master’s Degree in Intellectual Property (IP) jointly offered by the WIPO Academy, the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO), and Africa University in Mutare, Zimbabwe. The graduation ceremony was held at Africa University on June 11, 2022.
To mark the occasion, Professor Dr. Amon Murwira, the Zimbabwean Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology, and Mr. Satoshi Tanaka, the Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Zimbabwe participated in the ceremony. They encouraged the graduates to continue studying hard given the importance of IP in the African region, and the world.
The graduating class of 2022 is the 14th cohort of the program, and Funds-In-Trust Japan Industrial Property Global provided 12 scholarships to support students in their graduate studies in IP. Ambassador Tanaka met with the graduates personally after the ceremony and they expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to study IP at the graduate level.
The MIP at Africa University is the Academy’s longest running Joint Master’s Degree Program in the African Region.
