WIPO and the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam (DAV) signed an agreement on September 7, 2022 to offer tailor-made training opportunities on intellectual property (IP) for diplomats, as part of the WIPO Academy’s Project on IP Training for Diplomats and Trade Officials.
The training program will be launched soon with a number of pilot countries, such as Viet Nam, from different regions.

Mr. Hasan Kleib, Deputy Director General of the Regional and National Development Sector at WIPO, and Dr. Pham Lan Dung, Acting President of the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam signed the agreement in the presence of Mr. Đỗ Hùng Việt , the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam.
The Project on IP Training for Diplomats and Trade Officials will enhance the understanding of diplomats and relevant government officials of basic IP concepts as well as the interlinkages between IP and key global challenges. Under the agreement, WIPO will also support the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam with the delivery of regular and effective training programs on IP.

After the signing ceremony, Mr. Kleib gave a talk to second-year and third-year students from DAV on the role of IP in entrepreneurship and innovation. The WIPO IP Youth Ambassadors for Viet Nam, Ms. Tran Nguyen Khanh An and Mr. Nguyen Hoang Phuc were also present at the event to promote IP among the youth as part of their duties as WIPO IP Youth Ambassadors. The WIPO IP Youth Ambassadors initiative is part of the IP4Youth&Teachers service, which was designed and launched by the WIPO Academy in 2018. Its primary purpose is to engage young people involved in the creative process to leverage IP for the benefit of their communities and jointly, with national authorities, promote the use of IP among young people.
