Online Continuous Training Program for IPTIs

The WIPO Academy concluded the first edition of the Online Continuous Training Program for Intellectual Property Training Institutions (IPTIs) on May 27, 2021. The Program consisted of two modules held from September to November 2020 and from January to May 2021 respectively. The first module covered online teaching methodologies and the second module addressed topical intellectual property (IP) matters and recent developments across a wide range of IP areas.
The modules were held twice, once in English and once in Spanish for more than 60 participants in each session. At the end of the program, the trainers developed and presented online training project proposals on the topics covered, with the expectation that the proposals would be implemented by the participating IPTIs in the near future.
What did the modules cover?
The first module of the program focused on online teaching methodologies to strengthen the training capacity of national and regional trainers of IPTIs. The purpose of this module was to enable the trainers to adapt to the online teaching environment given the COVID-19 pandemic. The module covered topics such as:
- The learner-centered model of teaching;
- Active synchronous and asynchronous learning;
- Instructional design; and
- Formative assessments.
The second module revolved around the latest developments in the field of IP to help the trainers identify relevant topics to cover when training. The module addressed the intersection of IP with a range of issues including:
- Artificial intelligence and block chain;
- Digital and user-generated content;
- IP management for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs);
- Global health; and
- Food security.
