Arif Ali Curriculum Vitae – Mr. Arif Ali

Mr. Arif Ali, a national of the United States of America, is Senior Counsel at the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center. He has over ten years experience in the field of international dispute resolution. Mr. Ali’s activities at WIPO include the development of dispute avoidance and resolution systems, particularly with reference to electronic commerce environments and counseling parties on various aspects of international dispute resolution.

He is the Chair of the ASP Industry Consortium’s Dispute Avoidance and Resolution Team and also sits on the Consortium’s Best Practices Committee Editorial Board. Mr. Ali is also an Adviser to the Assemblies of French Chambers of Commerce and Industry on e-commerce dispute management.

Before joining the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center, he practiced law with the Paris office of Freshfields (International Arbitration and Public International Law Practice Groups), where he advised public and private entities on cross-border dispute resolution and acted as counsel in international commercial arbitrations under the auspices of the world’s major arbitral institutions. He has also practiced in the United States (Washington, D.C.) and for several years headed one of the UN Compensation Commission’s claims divisions.

Mr. Ali is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a member of several arbitral institutions and professional bodies. He holds degrees from the New York University School of Law (JD 1990, Vanderbilt Medal) and Columbia University (BA 1986, Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa).
