WIPO Arbitration Workshop

New York, United States of America, Friday, November 7, 2014

For many companies, intellectual property has become an essential business asset as well as a means of creating value. It is being exploited on an increasingly international level in various forms of collaborative arrangements, such as licenses, technology transfer agreements and R&D agreements. As a consequence, parties increasingly look for dispute resolution mechanisms that match their business requirements: private procedures which provide efficient, flexible and less costly means of settling international disputes without disrupting commercial relationships.

The WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center offers Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) procedures, in particular arbitration, expedited arbitration, mediation and expert determination, for the resolution of international commercial disputes between private parties. As part of its efforts to promote ADR options, and in order to meet increasing demand for training in those areas, the WIPO Center organizes every year WIPO Mediation and Arbitration Workshops.

The WIPO Center is organizing two Workshops in New York, in cooperation with the Licensing Executives Society (USA & Canada) and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (New York Branch). Each of these events will include a presentation on the 2014 WIPO Mediation, Arbitration and Expedited Arbitration Rules.

The purpose of the WIPO Mediation Workshop will be to provide training for parties in mediation and mediators, with focus on specific mediation techniques.

The purpose of the WIPO Arbitration Workshop will be to provide training of a practical nature for parties in arbitration and for arbitrators.

Both training sessions will be conducted by experienced intellectual property mediators and arbitrators. Participants may participate in one event or both events. A reduced registration fee will be applicable to those attending both events.

The WIPO Center will be pleased to assist participants who wish to apply for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) or Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credit for these events. A Financial Aid Policy is available.
