A letter was received from the Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts for the Government of Australia, in which WIPO is requested by the Australian Government on its own behalf and on behalf of 19 other member States to initiate the new study addressing outstanding domain name and intellectual property issues.
A second letter was also received, endorsed by the same governments, inviting WIPO to develop voluntary guidelines for the administrators of ccTLDs, to establish practices and policies to curb abusive and bad faith registration of protected names, and to resolve related disputes.
