WIPO Academy Commits to IP Education and Training Initiatives at the WIPO Assemblies

On the margins of the 65th Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO, Director General Daren Tang and Mr. Sherif Saadallah, Executive Director of the WIPO Academy, signed agreements with Cuba, Dominican Republic, Namibia and Peru for future initiatives on intellectual property (IP) training and skills-building.
Upskilling Dominican Republic’s Videogames Sector

Bridging Access to Online IP Education in Cuba
Mr. Sherif Saadallah, Executive Director of the WIPO Academy (left), and Ms. María de los Ángeles Sánchez Torres, Director General of the Cuban Office of Industrial Property (OCPI) (right), signed an agreement to extend the ongoing cooperation between WIPO and OCPI in the area of IP teaching and training for government officials, enterprises, young professionals through summer schools, and learners across Cuba through distance learning courses.
IP Training for Diplomats and Trade Officials in Namibia
An agreement was signed between Mr. Sherif Saadallah, the Executive Director of the WIPO Academy, Her Excellency Ms. Julia Imene-Chanduru, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Namibia to the Swiss Federation and United Nations Office at Geneva (center), and Prof. Kenneth Kamwi Matengu, Vice Chancellor of the University of Namibia (right), to launch a tailored version of the IP Training Program for Diplomats and Trade Officials in Namibia. The program will be offered jointly by the WIPO Academy, the Namibia School of Diplomatic Studies and the University of Namibia to enhance the understanding of IP fundamentals and the linkages between IP and global issues among Namibian diplomats and trade officials.
A New Diploma in IP Management and Innovation in Peru
Mr. Alberto Villanueva Eslava, Executive President of Peru’s National Institute for the Defense of Competition (Indecopi) (left), and Mr. Sherif Saadallah, Executive Director of the WIPO Academy (right), signed an agreement to develop a joint Diploma in IP Management and Innovation through the School of Indecopi, a WIPO Academy IP Training Institution, starting in 2025.
