The Access to Specialized Patent Information (ASPI) program is a public-private partnership administered by WIPO and made possible through cooperation with leading patent information providers.

Through the ASPI program, eligible patent offices and academic and research institutions in developing countries can receive free or low-cost access to sophisticated tools and services for retrieving and analyzing patent data.

Eligible institutions in Group 1 countries can participate in ASPI at no cost.

Eligible institutions in Group 2 countries receive access at a cost of 1000 Swiss francs for each account per calendar year (from January through December).

Eligible institutions in Group 3 countries receive access at a cost of 3000 Swiss francs for each account per calendar year.

Eligible institutions in Group 1 countries receive access to all database services at no cost.

Eligible institutions in Group 2 countries can request a free trial account for each patent database service for a period of up to 12 months, provided that they have not previously had access to the patent database service concerned.

In order to get started, you will need a computer connected to the Internet with a high-speed (56k baud rate or higher) connection. It is advisable to use an up-to-date version of your web browser in order to ensure full functionality of the selected database service(s).

Free access to patent information tools and services for institutions in Ukraine

The partnership will offer access to patent information tools and services available through the Access to Specialized Patent Information (ASPI) program to industrial property offices and local academic and research institutions in Ukraine at no cost until December 31, 2025. Eligible institutions may benefit from up to one account for each service available through ASPI.

Ambercite

Ambercite applies a citation-based algorithm to find and rank similar patents to one or more starting patents. In independent testing, it has been found, when used as a complementary search tool, to strengthen search quality by between 12 and 46%, and to outperform semantic-based search algorithms.

Derwent Innovation

Derwent Innovation is a proprietary patent research application that provides trusted patent data and tools to monitor technology trends and competitive landscapes, inform FTO opinions, prosecute patents, monetize and license assets and support litigation activities. It provides access to Derwent World Patents Index (DWPI), a curated patent database with editorially curated titles and abstracts, special subject matter classification coding and indexing, and proprietary patent invention-centric family building. Also includes the Derwent Patent Citation Index (DPCI) which indexes backwards and forwards patent and literature citations.

World Traditional Medicine Patent Database (WTMPD)

WTMPD contains patent information on natural medicines and their extracts with traditional Chinese medicines from more than 20 countries and regions, including China, the United States, Japan, Korea, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and Russia since 1985, as well as international organizations such as the European Patent Office and the World Intellectual Property Organization. It is a Chinese-English bilingual database of natural medicine patents.
