A Forum was organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in cooperation with the University of the West Indies (UWI), the Japan Patent Office (JPO), the Caribbean Climate Smart Accelerator (CCSA), the Caribbean Intellectual Property and Innovation Project of the European Union (CARIPI) and the Compete Caribbean Partnership Facility/ the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), with the support of financing from the Funds-In-Trust Japan Industrial Property Global. The hybrid-style Forum took place for 3 days from 22 to 24 March 2022 and was attended by the total of 38 physical participants and 26 online participants from7 countries.
In the three preparatory workshops held in 2021, participants ideated, prototyped and tested the first iteration of a capacity development program for visionaries in the CARICOM region.
Through the 3-day Forum, the participants successfully achieved testing the next iteration of the capacity development concepts by interactively discussing with presenters from governments and development agencies and joining prototyped capacity building sessions.
In addition, the Forum improved linkages between policy makers, development agencies and entrepreneurs operating in the Blue Economy space of the CARICOM region.
As a next step, the pilot project of a cohort of the capacity development program will be launched this year. The insights and feedbacks gathered after the Forum will be applied to the program in order to solidify a network of all the related actors of the Blue Economy space and to provide useful training sessions for visionaries in the CARICOM region.
