The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) held the online training seminar in cooperation with the National Institute for Standardization and Industrial Property (INNORPI) on March 23, and on April 25 and 26, 2022 with support from the Japan Patent Office.
The objective of this seminar was to develop skills and knowledge in identifying and using inventions in the public domain as a means for promoting technology transfer and commercialization/ utilization of inventions in developing countries.
During the seminar, participants from TISCs in Tunisia, including universities and other higher education institutions, research centers, and professional associations, learned how find and use inventions in the public domain to develop new products and innovative services.
The seminar consisted of two parts: The first part focused on how to construct effective strategies to identify and determine the legal status of inventions, in particular those disclosed in patent documents. The second part highlighted approaches for successfully integrating inventions determined to be in the public domain into new products, based on case study examples.
