The meeting took place at Lima from October 4 to 6, 2022, organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in cooperation with the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property (INDECOPI) of Peru with the participation of the Japan Patent Office (JPO), and financing support from the Funds-In-Trust Japan Industrial Property Global.
The objective of the Meeting was to facilitate the exchange ideas and best practices to allow for the design of a collaborative platform among the IP Offices of the Region. Focus was put in the creation of synergies to strengthen the IP and innovation ecosystem, including through the digitization of IP services.
In total, sixteen Latin American countries participated in the meeting (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela).
The JPO engaged with IPOs during the second day of the meeting discussing the ways to strengthen cooperation ties with the Latin American region. Mr. Masanori Katsura, Deputy Commissioner of the JPO, made his presentation about Cooperation between Latin American countries and the JPO, and discussed with participants about modernizing the IP Offices.
