November 15, 2022

We held a virtual sub-regional meeting on the Hague System for five African Hague members, from November 1 to 2, 2022. The event was organized with support from Funds-In-Trust Japan Industrial Property Global.

The objective of the meeting was to raise awareness of the importance of industrial designs as business assets, the advantages of the Hague System, and the value of learning from the experience of existing Hague IP Offices and businesses.

This meeting targets various stakeholders: the business sector, in particular SMEs, designers, IP attorneys, professional associations, universities, IP Offices and government officials, and so on. Around 90 (day 1) and 60 (day 2) participants attended the meeting from five Hague member countries: Botswana, Ghana, Namibia, Rwanda and Sao Tome and Principe.

About the meeting

The 2 days meeting focused on enriching participants’ understanding of practical knowledge, which includes providing practical information and guidance on the functioning of the Hague system of WIPO, exchanging practices and experiences by participated IP offices of Hague members including the Japan Patent Office, and sharing their best practices on how users can get the most of the potential of the Hague System.
