From December 5 to 9, 2022, WIPO, together with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), co-organized a sharing-best-practices workshop on smarter IP office business services in Manila, the Philippines, with support from Funds-In-Trust Japan Industrial Property Global (FIT/Japan IP Global). The workshop welcomed the officials who are in charge of IP office business operation and information technology from IP offices in Cambodia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.
The objectives of the workshop were (i) to share best practices, technical expertise and knowhow of IP office administration and business services; (ii) to discuss the ways and means of leveraging smarter technical tools for the improvement of services and performance of IP office; (iii) to exchange information on performance of IP office business practices in different IP Offices to identify ways in which IP office can improve the efficiency and quality of business operations; and (iv) to provide the practical information on the technical specifics for the deployment of WIPO solutions as well as the customization and administration of WIPO IPAS, WIPO Publish and WIPO File for online services.
The workshop welcomed 36 officials in person, who are in charge of IP office business operation and information technology from IP offices in Cambodia, Lao People's Democratic Republic (PDR), the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.
The format of the workshop was designed to share current and best practices among the participating IP offices. The IPOPHL shared its best practices, operational challenges and the solutions including the adoption of WIPO IPAS with on-site demonstration while a speaker from the Japan Patent Office made a presentation on its IT services for the dissemination of patent information. The officials from IP offices in Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Vietnam also made presentations on status and challenges at their offices in the areas of IT, digitization, and business processes on administration of domestic and international applications. The on-site demonstration and these presentations spurred a lot of insightful questions and discussions among participants, the results of which are applicable to their daily works and challenges they face.
