In Japanese fiscal year (JFY) 2022, WIPO Japan Office (WJO) organized fellowship programs in the area of IP for international students studying and enrolled in Japanese universities, with support from Funds-In-Trust Japan Industrial Property Global (FIT/Japan IP Global).
The programs invited fellows to undergo customized training programs in the area of IP at IP law firms in Japan for the duration of two weeks (10 working days).
Taking into account the focused study areas and interests of fellows, WIPO and the host institution customized the training programs. Furthermore, one or more trainers served as fellow’s personal tutors throughout the programs.
Training programs included items such as lectures in IP and IP strategy, practical case studies, visit to relevant institutions (e.g., the Japan Patent Office, courts, private companies and other related organizations), and discussion with patent attorneys and lawyers, while the fellows were requested to make presentations on IP framework and success stories in the fellow’s home countries.
The WJO accepted total of four fellows whose nationalities are Mozambique, Tajikistan, Pakistan, or Brazil in JFY 2022, and these fellows participated the programs at Shiga International Patent Office or Seiwa Patent & Law. All of them expressed satisfaction with the programs and many of them highlighted the benefits of networking opportunities provided under the programs.
