WIPO organized MIP Alumni Conferences in Harare, Zimbabwe and Yaoundé, Cameroon. The conferences aimed at offering opportunity for participants to update skills and know-how on the practical use of IP for business management. Taking into account the participation of alumni, the conferences also provided the opportunity to establish IP networks across the region.
An alumni conference for MIP program at Africa University was held in Harare, Zimbabwe, on December 7 and 8, 2022, in collaboration with the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO) and Africa University, with the assistance of the Government of Japan.
Fifty alumni of the MIP program at Africa University participated in the conference. Mr. Futoshi Yasuda, the Director General of the Patent and Design Examination Department of the Japan Patent Office (JPO) participated in the conference and delivered his opening remarks.
A same concept alumni conference for MIP program at University of Yaoundé II was held in Yaoundé, Cameroon, on February 1 and 2, 2023, in collaboration with l’Organisation africaine de la propriété intellectuelle (OAPI) and University of Yaoundé II, with the assistance of the Government of Japan.
Forty-one alumni of the MIP program at University of Yaounde II participated in the conference. The conference was opened by the remarks of Mr. Denis Bohoussou, Director General of OAPI. Following the lectures of IP experts, participants did group work discussions. Through practical discussions, the participants learned the importance of IP management and strengthened the alumni network community.
