Expert Workshop on the Madrid System for the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia

On January 26 and 27, 2023, we held a face-to-face expert workshop on the Madrid System for the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO), in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The event was organized with support from Funds-In-Trust Japan Industrial Property Global.
This bilateral workshop was held in person for the first time since the breakout of COVID-19 in 2020.
The main objective of this workshop was to strengthen operational and promotional practices with MyIPO, and to exchange in-depth knowledge and best practices on the Madrid System.
Some 70 participants attended the workshop from MyIPO. Three officials from the Japan Patent Office (JPO) participated as speakers.
About the Workshop
The workshop covered all aspects of the Madrid System, such as the role played by the Office of Origin and the Office of the Designated Contracting Party, classification, data communication, and further promotion of the Madrid System at national/regional level.
The Workshop included an on-site visit of MyIPO’s examination offices.
MyIPO, JPO and WIPO exchanged information and best practices, and discussed further improvements in operations, classification, examination, digital communication, and promotion of the Madrid System.
