The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in collaboration with the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DGIP), Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia, held a regional meeting on March 27 and 28, 2023 with support from Funds-In-Trust Japan Industrial Property Global.
The purpose of this meeting was to strengthen the regional network of Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISCs) among member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and foster exchange of experiences and best practices and resource-sharing within the region.
The meeting was part of a series of ASEAN Regional TISC Meetings held by WIPO with support from the Japan Patent Office since 2013 and the first to be held in person since 2019. The meeting was attended by sixteen representatives from eight ASEAN member states and provided them with the opportunity to share information on the current status and recent developments in their national TISC networks.
The meeting also included a special session on organizing effective communications campaigns to promote intellectual property and innovation support services, with presentations by Ms. Emily Abrera, President of the Foundation for Communications Initiatives (FOCI) and case studies from Indonesia, Philippines, and Viet Nam. This session concluded with the signing of an ASEAN TISC Network Advocacy Pledge, expressing the intention of the attending national TISC networks to cooperate in:
