Workshop on Access to Technology for Innovation and the Development of Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISCs) in Nouakchott, Mauritania

August 10, 2023

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Handicrafts and Tourism of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania held a training seminar from March 14 to 16, 2023 with support from Funds-In-Trust Japan Industrial Property Global.

The purpose of this training seminar was to develop and reinforce skills and knowledge of staff from Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISCs) in Mauritania on identifying and using inventions in the public domain as a means for promoting technology transfer and commercialization/utilization of inventions.

About the meeting

The training seminar was attended by more than 30 TISC staff and university students from Mauritania. Participants learned about patent and trademark search tools and strategies, features of patent and trademark databases, in particular WIPO’s PATENTSCOPE database and the Global Brand Database, and how to use these features effectively. They also received practical training in searching for scientific and technical content available through the Access to Research for Development and Innovation (ARDI) program and its sister programs in Research4Life partnership.* The Government of Mauritania expressed its gratitude to the Japan Patent Office for its financial support that facilitated the organization of the workshop.

* ARDI and its sister programs in the Research4Life partnership provide institutions in low-and middle-income countries with free or low-cost access to peer-reviewed academic and professional online content.
