The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) organized a training program on Patent Information and Technology Databases for the Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISCs) in collaboration with the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP), Ministry of Commerce, Cambodia with support from Funds-In-Trust Japan Industrial Property Global in Phnom Penh, Cambodia from March 13 to 15, 2024.
The purpose of this training program was to mobilize support for the development of the national TISC network from prospective TISC host institutions in Cambodia and to support the development of knowledge and skills on patent information search strategies and techniques.
The meeting was opened by Ms. Sreymech So, Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Commerce; Mr. Suon Vichea, Director of the Department of Intellectual Property, Ministry of Commerce; and Mr. Andrew Czajkowski, Director, Technology and Innovation Support Division, WIPO. Ms. Sachiyo Yoshino, Director, International Cooperation Division, Japan Patent Office delivered her opening remarks in the form of a video message.
The meeting was attended by over 60 participants from TISCs in Cambodia. Participants learned the value of patent information and the importance and role of TISCs for the national intellectual property ecosystem. They also learned how to carry out patent searches through practical training using PATENTSCOPE, and how to search for scientific and technical information in non-patent literature available through the WIPO Access to Research for Development and Innovation (ARDI). This opportunity would be a steppingstone point for the further development of the TISC network in Cambodia.
