On March 7 and 8, 2024, we held a regional meeting on the Madrid System for selected Members in the Asia and Pacific region. The event – held in Bangkok, Thailand – was organized with the assistance of the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP), Ministry of Commerce of Thailand, and with support from Funds-In-Trust (FIT) Japan Industrial Property Global.
This was the seventh meeting organized for this region under FIT/Japan.
14 representatives from seven Madrid System Members – namely India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam – participated in the meeting. One official from the Japan Patent Office (JPO) participated as a speaker.
The objective of the meeting was to discuss operational issues, and enhanced promotion of the Madrid System, through the exchange of knowledge and best practices.
A whole range of topics were covered such as the role played by IP Offices both as “Office of Origin” and “designated Office”, classification, data communication (XML data exchange, Madrid e-Filing, IPAS, etc.), and national/regional promotion of the Madrid System.
Participants exchanged valuable insights and perspectives on the practical challenges they face, and fostered a deeper commitment to finding solutions.
