Notifications

Date: July 23, 2023

The National Institute of Industrial Property of Brazil (INPI) notified the International Bureau, in accordance with paragraphs 12 of the Framework Provisions of the Digital Access Service (DAS), that it would extend the scope of its operation as an Accessing Office in the WIPO DAS, to include national industrial design applications and Hague international  applications, as of August 1, 2023.

Technical and operational options adopted by INPI as an Accessing Office for Industrial Designs are:

  • INPI will accept color or greyscale documents in PDF format as deposited by the Depositing Office.

The following information may be useful to applicants:

  • The applicant must inform the claimed priority number and the corresponding DAS code at the moment of the application for registration.
  • The presentation of priority documents made available through WIPO-DAS entails the tacit declaration, by the applicant, that the industrial design contained in the application for national registration or in the designation of Brazil, is fully contained in the priority document, eliminating the need to present a translation of the priority document to INPI.

The Brazil National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), notified the International Bureau in accordance with paragraphs 10 of the Framework Provisions that it would extend its scope to Trademark and Industrial Design applications as a depositing office from August 3, 2020.


Date: March 6, 2018

INPI of Brazil notified the International Bureau that as from April 1, 2018, it would participate as an Accessing Office, with the following aspects:

  • According to paragraph 12 of the Framework Provisions, it would commence operation as an Accessing Office with effect from April 1, 2018.
  • As an Accessing Office, the Office will recognize priority documents available to it through the service for the purposes of any application for which the time for furnishing the priority document has not expired by May 1, 2018.
  • Regarding the technical arrangements for this arrangement: as an Accessing Office, the Office will accept color or grayscale documents in PDF.
  • The following practical information may be useful to applicants: to request the Office as Accessing Office to retrieve the document from the service, the applicant should send a letter to the Office.

The National Institute of Industrial Property of Brazil notified in in accordance with paragraphs 10 and 12 of the Framework Provisions that came into effect on July 1, 2012, that it would become a Depositing Office of the WIPO  Digital Access Service (DAS) as of December 1, 2017, with the following parameters:

  • Participation as Depositing Office only (according to the paragraph 10 of the Framework Provisions);
  • Use of the DAS  Office Portal for the uploading of priority documents upon request of applicants;
  • Generation and sending of access codes to applicants by email will be done by the WIPO DAS system.
