WORLD INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY ORGANIZATION
GENEVA
Second Session, First Part
Geneva, March 15 to 17, 1999
1. At its first session, which was held in Geneva from July 13 to 17, 1998, the Standing Committee on the Law of Trademarks, Industrial Designs and Geographical Indications (SCT) adopted rules of procedure applicable to it (see document SCT/1/6, paragraphs 12 to 22). In essence, it was decided to apply the WIPO General Rules of Procedures, subject to modification by agreed special rules of procedure.
2. In addition to the special rules of procedure adopted at the first meeting of the SCT, it is proposed to adopt two special rules of procedure concerning the term and re-election of the Chair and the two Vice-Chairs.
3. In order to allow for the greatest possible continuity in the work of the officers of the Standing Committee, it is suggested that the Standing Committee elect the Chair and the two Vice-Chairs for one year.
4. It is also suggested that the outgoing Chair and Vice-Chairs shall be immediately eligible for re-election to the offices which they have held.
5. The SCT is invited to adopt the special rules of procedure proposed in paragraphs 3 and 4, above.
