Member States and IDAs discussed current practices and future development of the Budapest system

A Meeting of the Member States and International Depositary Authorities (IDAs) under the Budapest Treaty was held at the WIPO Headquarters in Geneva on November 13 and 14, 2023. This onsite meeting offered a rare opportunity for Member States and IDAs to come together and share information and experiences at the international level on the implementation of the Budapest Treaty.
During these two days, participants shared their practices and requirements regarding the deposit of biological material and furnishing of samples of deposited material to requesting parties for the purposes of the patent procedure. They also shared their views on how the cooperation between IP Offices and IDAs may be improved. Considering the technological advancements in the field of biotechnology since the adoption of the Treaty in 1977, participants also discussed the potential further development of the Budapest System.
