The WIPO Conversation on Intellectual Property and Artificial Intelligence
A number of sessions of the WIPO Conversation have considered the impact of artificial intelligence (Al) on IP policy.
WIPO held the First Session of the WIPO Conversation on IP and AI in September 2019 to discuss the impact of Al on IP policy, with a view to collectively formulating the questions that policymakers need to ask.

In December 2019, WIPO published a draft Issues Paper on IP policy and AI, and started a public consultation process inviting feedback to help define the most-pressing questions likely to face IP policy makers as AI increases in importance. Over 250 submissions were received in the consultation process.
In May 2020, a revised Issues Paper on IP policy and AI was published taking into account the submissions received.
The issues set out in the Revised Issues Paper were discussed in detail in the second session and third session of the WIPO Conversation in July and November 2020 respectively.
Previous sessions of the WIPO Conversation on IP and AI
Second Session
The second session of the WIPO Conversation in July 2020 conceptually discussed questions of IP protection for AI works and inventions, and data.
Third Session
The third session of the WIPO Conversation in November 2020 was dedicated to connection of AI with trademarks and capacity building.
Sixth Session
The sixth session of the WIPO Conversation in September 2022 took a deep dive into AI inventions. A paper setting out details on possible AI inventorship scenarios is in preparation for publication in 2023.
