June 14, 2017

On May 21, 2017 WIPO launched the all-new Member Profiles Database at the annual INTA Madrid System Users’ Meeting. This highly anticipated e-service offers a portal to the trademark rules and examination procedures of Madrid System members, putting a wealth of vital information at your fingertips.

What’s new?

When preparing an international trademark application, use the Member Profiles Database to uncover details about trademark offices in your target markets, including which types of trademarks can be protected and how to file an international application through your ‘home’ Office of origin.

After you’ve registered your trademark through the Madrid System, the database’s simple interface gives you access to key procedures and time limits applicable in the countries or regions of Madrid System members you have designated under your international registration.

For more on the features and benefits of the Member Profiles Database, check out our e-services brochure PDF, E-services brochureor browse the Madrid File page.

Using the database

Get started with the Member Profiles Database in two easy steps: first, select the member(s) you are interested in, then determine the type of information you’re looking for.

Choose from a wide range of data including:

  • Requirements for the representation of a mark
  • Requirements for collective, certification and guarantee marks
  • Information on each member’s classification practices
  • How to calculate time limits related to refusals, oppositions, declarations, cancellations for non-use, and third party observations
  • Procedures and fees for responding to provisional refusals, oppositions, and third party observations
  • Cancellation and invalidation
  • Replacement and transformation

Once you’ve found the information you’re looking for, the Member Profiles Database also allows you to save, share or print your results quickly and easily.

For detailed instructions on how to use the database, including how to access data on filing an international application through your home Office of origin and responding to provisional refusals, download the Member Profiles Quick Start Guide PDF, Member Profiles Quick Start Guide.
