Helping Brand Owners in Malaysia Expand Overseas

December 9, 2020

The Malaysian IP Office (MyIPO) organized a national webinar entitled Strategic Use of the Madrid System for the International Registration of Marks for Business Development. It was a pleasure for the WSO to deliver a presentation that highlighted the cost and time benefits the Madrid System offers Malaysian businesses who are looking to protect their trademark overseas.

Over 120 Malaysian business owners, IP lawyers and government officials joined the webinar, and posed a range of very detailed questions. These questions related to the Madrid System’s flexibility to permit a partial change in ownership relating to either some designated contracting parties and/or some of the goods and services covered by the registration, as well as the process of subsequently designating new countries in which protection is sought as a business expands into new markets.
