WIPO China: IP Empowers Innovative Development in China's Automotive Industry

Wuhan, May 15 to 17 - The 2024 China Automotive Intellectual Property Annual Conference (CAIPC), hosted by the China Automotive IP Utilization Promotion Center, was held in Wuhan, Hubei Province. Mr. Bai Guangqing, Senior Counselor of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Office in China, attended and addressed the conference. About 500 participants, including senior officials, experts and scholars, enterprise representatives and media from China Automotive Technology and Research Center Co., Ltd., Dongfeng Motor Corporation, China National Intellectual Property Administration, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, State Administration for Market Regulation, Tianjin IP Office, Hubei IP Office and Guangzhou IP Office attended the conference. The theme of this year's conference is "Accelerating IP Transformation and Utilization, Empowering Innovation and Development in the Automotive Industry."

In his opening speech, Mr. Bai highlighted the latest developments of WIPO and its insights into global intellectual property trends. He noted that with shifting global economic patterns, rising geopolitical tensions, and rapid digital advancements, countries increasingly view innovation and technology as crucial for securing supply chains, addressing global challenges at home and abroad, and promoting sustainable development. WIPO's Medium-Term Strategic Plan aims to better serve global innovation through IP. He also lectured on using the Hague System to better protect IP in the automotive industry at the Internationalization Development Sub-forum.

The annual conference witnessed the release of "Research Report on China's Automobile Overseas Intellectual Property Protection" and the launch of "Automotive Overseas IP Infringement Early Warning Platform". Sub-forums on compliance management, IP protection for new energy vehicles, standard essential patents (SEP), AI and IP protection in the automotive industry, and internationalization development were also held.
