Executive Training Program on IP Asset Commercialization and Management Concludes in China

The WIPO Academy in collaboration with the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) and China Intellectual Property Training Center (CIPTC) held a five-day advanced training on intellectual property (IP) asset management and commercialization bringing together 12 senior officials from developing countries. The intensive program took place in Beijing, China from December 9 to 13, 2024, at the CIPTC training facility and was focused on equipping participants with the tools to develop effective IP management strategies that will support innovators to bring new ideas to the market.
What did the executive training program cover?
Participants benefitted from interactive lectures on:
- China’s IP landscape and journey;
- IP management policies and strategies to support economic growth and sustainable development, with a focus on government policies in technology-driven sectors;
- Designing effective management and commercialization strategies for universities and public research institutions;
- Practical case studies of real-world success stories in IP commercialization from Tencent Group and Tsinghua University;
- IP Enforcement strategies; and
- The new frontier of IP valuation and IP backed financing.
The program also featured a field visit to Tencent Group, a leading innovation company in the technology industry in China during which participants saw first-hand the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in innovative products. Additionally, the participants delivered country reports and exchanged views and best practices.

What is the Executive Training Program?
The WIPO Academy’s Executive Training Program was launched in 2024 to offer short and intensive practical skills-building opportunities for IP professionals interested in:
- Leveraging IP as a tool for business growth;
- Enhancing IP negotiation capabilities;
- Building strong networks and partnerships across disciplines; and
- Developing and protecting new ideas and technologies across multiple industries in various innovative and creative sectors.
