Hague System: Amendments to Common Regulations

At its 2021 meeting, the Assembly of the Hague Union adopted a number of amendments to the Common Regulations .
Important! These amendments will come into force on January 1, 2022.

What will change?
In a nutshell:
Amendments to… | Effects |
---|---|
Rule 5 | Introduce a general provision that can excuse a delay in meeting a time limit to perform a required action with WIPO due to a force majeure, e.g., COVID-19 pandemic. |
Rule 17 | Extend standard publication of an international registration – currently six months from the date of registration – to twelve months. Note: This will be applicable to all international applications filed on or after January 1, 2022. Introduce the possibility to request earlier publication (any time) of an international registration. |
Rule 21 | Make it easier for a new owner to request the recording of the change in ownership. |
