Main Findings
In 2006, a total number of 404 invention disclosures were reported by academic research institutions, an increase of 5.5% compared to 2005. The number of active patent cases managed continued to rise, amounting to 1.245 at the end of 2006.
During the same time period, 196 new license, option or sales agreements were reported; licensees were mainly SMEs (about two thirds), but also large companies and public institutions. The amount of active licenses remained stable in comparison with 2005.
Total license income was CHF 8.9 million. One in three active licenses generated income in 2006. 41 new start-ups were formed on the basis of formal licenses.
