A dispute settlement rate of 70% using WIPO mediation, the ability to provide cross border solutions and the capacity for mediation to preserve business relationships were just some of the key points shared during a recent regional webinar the WIPO Singapore Office organized in collaboration with WIPO’s Arbitration and Mediation Center and the Government of Singapore.

The webinar, IP Offices and Use of WIPO’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Services, saw 55 representatives from 14 member states join the event. It also featured two case studies delivered by the IP offices of the Philippines and Singapore on how they use alternative dispute resolution as part of their operations.

The Singapore Office of WIPO’s Arbitration and Mediation Center explained to the audience the various benefits of using WIPO services for alternative dispute resolution such as our international neutrality, ability to handle cases concerning all types of IP and technology, the unique experience of WIPO mediators and arbitrators, our competitive fees and the assistance WIPO provides in administering such procedures.

The activity was the first of a number of activities the WIPO Singapore Office will organize in 2021 under the WIPO – Government of Singapore MoU.

The topic reflects the growing interest in alternative dispute resolution in the region with WIPO reporting collaborations with IP offices and courts in 16 Asian countries.
