Workshop on Primer to Patent Analytics for IP Offices

Today and tomorrow, June 3 to 4, 2024, the WIPO Singapore Office (WSO) is hosting the Workshop on Primer to Patent Analytics for IP Offices. Representatives of the ASEAN Secretariat, the Chair of the ASEAN Working Group on IP Cooperation (AWGIPC), and nine national IP Offices in the ASEAN region are meeting in person and online to discuss benefits and best practices of Patent Analytics (PA). The event is jointly organized by the WSO and the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS), in cooperation with the Government of Singapore, under its Singapore Cooperation Programme of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

 

The workshop represents the second building block of a two-stage project under the WIPO-Government of Singapore MOU; the preparation and recent launch of the report on the Southeast Asia Patent Landscape constituting the first stage. This week’s event ties in with the report by shedding light on its key findings, in particular regional breakthroughs in various fields in invention. In addition, it provides a platform for ASEAN IP Offices to share best practices in PA and in building up PA-related capabilities in IP Offices. In the proceedings, the discussion and sharing by patent officers, patent analysts and international experts on global trends, current practices, tools and methodologies will also be complemented by hands-on group activities.

Ranking as the third-largest market in Asia and fifth globally, Southeast Asia has witnessed a significant increase in patent applications in the past years. The workshop is thus timely to highlight the potential of patent information to uncover innovation insights and patterns, especially in particular areas or technology fields.
