At WIPO we don't shy away from the big questions. And perhaps the biggest of them all is what is the future
of intellectual property? It's likely to be shaped by many factors which influence innovation and creativity. Take changing demographics. Our youth were born digital. Creation and innovation is broadening, from research labs and studios into the streets everywhere. How should we shape the IP system to meet the expectations of this next generation? Closer to home. What would the IP office of the future look like? What skills and capabilities will they need to become innovation catalysts in this new context? To cater for the changing needs of their stakeholders, and to engage their societies, and continue to strengthen the social compact of IP. Change is constant. It is sometimes disruptive and sometimes unanticipated. Above all, the future of IP will depend on effective multilateralism, the capacity of the international community to agree on the big questions and move forward together, leaving no one behind. At WIPO we are working with our Member States to understand the possibilities that the future may bring and to navigate the path forward to ensure that IP remains a force for good, promoting innovation and creativity, and driving human progress for many generations to come.
