Calling all Cabo Verdeans: This is Your Chance to Join in on IP Hackathon of 2023

The WIPO Regional and National Development Sector’s Projects Team is organizing an online Intellectual Property (IP) Hackathon from March 24 to 26, 2023 for Cabo Verde citizens. Registrations for the Hackathon are open for Cabo Verdeans until March 22, 2023. The Hackathon is a great opportunity for young innovators, creators and entrepreneurs to join forces to solve IP related challenges.

Leg up on the competition
In December 2022, the WIPO Academy ran a special session of its flagship course, the General Distance Learning Course on Intellectual Property (DL-101) in Portuguese for 42 young entrepreneurs from micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in industries such as food, fashion and art to help them prepare for the Hackathon.
The special offering of the DL-101 was organized by WIPO in collaboration with the Cabo Verde Institute for Quality Management and Intellectual Property, who selected the participants as well. The course was taught by an IP expert, Ms. Carolina Panzolini, as she was part of the team responsible for developing and providing technical assistance in developing the national intellectual property policy and strategy of Cabo Verde. She covered the tailored course content with relevant practical examples from the country, guiding the participants on the steps they need to take to protect their ideas and take advantage of IP to commercialize and protect their creations and innovations.
The young entrepreneurs are currently preparing to protect their trademarks and other IP assets of their business for a competitive edge in the market, while gearing up to compete in the Hackathon.
The course was very practical and informative. I will seek to protect my trademark as that is a great business advantage, but on top of that, now I also know that I can also protect the intellectual property of my business in many other ways.
