David Merrylees, born in Devon, England, was educated at Bradfield College and took an honours degree in engineering at Oxford University. He initiated his career at a London firm of patent agents where he qualified as a Chartered Patent Agent and later became a European Patent Attorney.
Having emigrated to Brazil, he became a Brazilian Industrial Property Agent and is now one of the senior partners of the firm Dannemann, Siemsen, Bigler & Ipanema Moreira, responsible both for the patent department of the office and for the computer development department.
Mr. Merrylees has been active in AIPPI where he chaired two patent related questions, including that regarding computer related inventions, and is presently the Brazilian delegate of FICPI. He participated on a large number of occasions as representative of the Brazilian Association of Intellectual Property during the working sessions of the draft Patent Harmonisation Treaty and, more recently, the PLT.
