Dr. Roberto Villarreal-Gonda, a national of Mexico, is Coordinator in the Presidential Office for Public Policies, where he is responsible for the coordination of policies among Ministries in the economic and social areas of the Federal Government.
Dr. Villarreal-Gonda had prior experience in different ministries such as the Ministry of Finance where he was, from 1995 to 1997, Head of the Offices for Privatization of Public Enterprises and for Capital Budgeting. He also held, from 1988 to 1994, in the Ministry of Commerce and Industrial Development the following posts: Director General for Technological Development and Head of the Patent and Trademark Office (PTO), Chief Negotiator in Intellectual Property for the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Director of Deregulation for Electricity and Gas Sectors and Chief of Staff to the Minister. He also worked for the Ministry of Planning and Budgeting, from 1987 to 1988, as Director of Macroeconomic Analysis.
Dr. Villarreal-Gonda has an extensive experience in teaching macro and microeconomics, business economics and econometrics in several private and public universities. He also acted as researcher and consultant on energy policies, economic development and strategic policies.
Dr. Villarreal-Gonda is the author of several articles and papers which focus on economical and financial issues. He has made over 100 public presentations in Mexico, the United States of America, Canada and Latin American countries on industrial, financial, government, science and technology, legal and academic topics.
He has been member of the Board of Directors of several public enterprises in Mexico, including Pemex Exploración y Producción, Pemex Gas y Petroquímica Básica, Pemex Refinación, Ferrocarriles Nacionales de México, Mexicana, Banca Cremi and Infotec.
Dr. Villarreal-Gonda has a Ph.D in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, a M.A. in Economics from the College of Mexico, Mexico City and a Bachellor Degree Summa Cum Laude in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superioes de Monterrey, Monterrey, Mexico.
