Ulrich Schmoch, a national of Germany, is a Reader in Sociology of Technology at the University of Karlsruhe since 2002. He joined the Fraunhofer Institute Systems and Innovation Research (ISI) in 1986 and was nominated Deputy Head of the Department of Technology Analysis and Innovation Strategies in 1992.
Prior to this, he worked at the Institute for Fluid Machines, University of Hanover from 1978 to 1980, and as Calculation Engineer during the period 1982 and 1983. From 1983 to 1985, he was engaged as a Patent Engineer for the Patent Attorney Office Peerbooms in Wuppertal.
Mr. Schmoch has undertaken extensive research in the fields of patent law and patent information, technology and science indicators, models of the innovation process, genesis of technology, technology transfer and the interaction of universities and industrial enterprises. He is the author of numerous articles, papers and books on these subjects.
He studied at the Universities of Hanover and Grenoble and obtained his Diplo.-Ing. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Hanover in 1977. Mr. Schmoch received a PhD. of Social Sciences from the University of Hanover in 1983, and a habilitation in Sociology from the University of Karlsruhe in 2002.
In 1988 and 1993, Mr. Schmoch was awarded the special prize of Joseph-von-Fraunhofer.
