Barney Wragg, Vice President eLabs at Universal Music Group in London. Barney's group is focused on new technologies that will impact the distribution of music and generate new revenue streams for the world largest record company. eLabs is at the centre of Universal on-line music distribution managing relationships with companies such as Apple, Buymusic.com, OD2, Liquid and others. ELabs is also driving Universal's emerging business in wireless exploitation of music and related properties. Prior to being with Universal, Barney worked for Advanced RISC Machines or ARM, the world's largest provider of microprocessor technology for Cellphones. Barney joined ARM in 1996 to work in the system on chip' development group. Key contributions involved developing and marketing ARM's multimedia strategy and looking at issues of low cost, low complexity audio and video compression and decompression on low power, RISC processors.
Barney Wragg graduated from the University of Surrey, UK with a BSc in Physics and Acoustics, during which time he conducted commercial and academic research into medical imaging and industrial inspection systems.
Barney is also an active member of ISO/IEC MPEG chairing the Rights Expression Language and Right Data Dictionary Working Groups and has been a key participant of the SDMI (Secure Digital Music Initiative) Strategic Planning Group.
