Mr. Koichi MINAMI has been the Deputy Commissioner of the Japan Patent Office (JPO) since July 2008. He received a bachelor’s degree of engineering from the Nagoya Institute of Technology. He joined the JPO in 1977. During his tenure as the Planning Director for the Automation, he proposed the “IP Cyber Plan” to WIPO with USPTO for computerization of all IP offices in the world. While he was working as the Director of the Technology Research Division, he was engaged in the formulation of Intellectual Property Policy Outline of Japan. Today, he is responsible for all matters relating to patent examination in the JPO.
