John L. Simson is the Executive Director of SoundExchange, the non-profit organization tasked by Congress with collecting and distributing digital performance royalties. John has practiced entertainment law since 1980, including a ten-year partnership in Studio One Artists, managing superstar artists as well as serving as President of the Washington, D.C. chapter of NARAS, on the Recording Academy Board of Governors, and as a National Trustee of the Academy. His leadership of SoundExchange has been among the most rewarding work of his life, devoted mostly to tireless efforts on behalf of the artists and copyright holders to be paid for their creative content.
